We explore his landmark 1867 book, "Dreams and How to Direct Them," and his unique experiments involving perfumes and sounds to influence the dreaming mind. Learn about the secret life of this College de France professor and how his 19th-century research laid the groundwork for modern university studies on lucid dream induction and the potential of the "higher self" in our sleep.

SCRIPT OF THE VIDEO WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES:

Hello everyone. Today I'm going to talk to you about Hervey de Saint Denys and his book: Dreams and how to direct them. It's a book about lucid dreams. So what is a lucid dream? A lucid dream is a dream in which you remain fully aware as if you were awake. And being fully aware also means you have the ability to use your willpower to change the course of the dream. You can change a situation you don't like in the dream like a nightmare and turn it into a happier dream. Or you can also use your conscious mind to conduct experiments. That's what Hervey de Saint Denys did since his childhood. He did all kinds of experiments in his dreams and had an incredible imagination for coming up with all sorts of experiments. For example, he used the effects of perfumes on dreams, the effect of sounds in dreams, and many other things that I encourage you to discover by reading his book. Hervey de Saint Denys was born in 1822 and died in 1892. His book was published in 1867 under a pseudonym because at the time he was a professor at the College of France and a Scinologist and did not want to be known as a dreamer. He also wrote many books about China. I encourage you to discover this author who is truly fascinating. His most widely read book today is his book on dreams and it even served as the basis for university research in the United States on ways to induce lucid dreaming. If the topic of lucid dreaming interests you, I can make another video for you on how to develop another type of lucidity in dreams that gives the leading role for making decisions not to the conscious mind and our waking life rationality but to our soul or our higher self. Call it whatever you like. Which is much more capable of making better decisions. Decisions that are more informed, more beneficial, and sometimes unexpected. Thank you for listening to me and I'll see you very soon for more videos.
